More than 12,000 pounds of bacon have been recalled after entering the United States from Canada without undergoing the required import inspection, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The recall involves Maple Leaf Foods smoked bacon products that were imported without receiving the mandatory U.S. reinspection process. The affected products are not ready-to-eat and were distributed to retail stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Federal officials say there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recalled bacon. Even so, consumers are urged to check whether they purchased any of the affected products and follow the recall guidance.
The announcement comes shortly after the Trump administration revealed plans to impose 50% tariffs on several Canadian imports, including products from the auto, alcohol, and dairy sectors. Those tariffs are currently scheduled to take effect on August 19, although Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has indicated that negotiations are ongoing, meaning the final details could still change.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the recalled bacon was distributed to Grocery Outlet distributors and retail stores in the following states:

- Washington
FSIS said a complete distribution list will be published on its website once it becomes available.
What Should You Do If You Bought It?
Federal officials warn that some of the recalled bacon may still be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers.
If you have one of the affected products, do not eat it. Instead, either:
- Throw the bacon away, or
- Return it to the store where you purchased it for a refund or proper disposal.
Although no illnesses have been reported, FSIS recommends taking these precautions because the products entered the United States without the required import reinspection.
